Personally I think the 6D is going to be a bit hit for Canon and I’d be surprised if it doesn’t out sell the 5D mark-III this year. However, not all the built quality can match as you can find out from the rather tounge-in-cheek, but excellent, video comparison from DigitalRev below. I was also interested to read that the 6D also provides almost the same type of weather sealing as the 5D-III, which if true, would make this a very tempting second body for a 5D mark-III owner like myself. The 6D is surely going to be a best seller for Canon, offering almost all the features of a 5D-III, yet with the addition of built-in WiFi and GPS but at a significantly lower price. Will the 6D tempt potential 5D mark-III buyers? Certainly worth a read though, which you can find here. It’s not clear whether the test shots are shot in jpeg mode or are a jpeg conversion from the original RAW.

The review suggests that the higher ISO results from the 6D actually out perform those of 5D-III due to the slightly smaller sensor, although I find their presentation of this a little confusing. This review seems to suggest the same, with the 6D’s features and pricing offering a very tempting package for 5D and even 5D mark-II owners looking to upgrade. Back in September 2012 I suggested that the 6D may have been pitched by Canon to take on the mantle previously held by the 5D, with the latter moving up market. Well, if you want to find out, ePHOTOzine has just published a rather interesting comparison between the Canon full-frame DSLR’s, the Canon EOS 5D mark-III, and the recently released EOS 6D. Sometimes not taking a photograph can be as problematic as taking one.How does the 6D compare to the 5D Mark-III? In any case I hope it works out well for you. He also mentioned that he finds the joystick on the 5D3 far superior for choosing AF points vs. More for the fact that the 5D3s AF points cover a larger area so there is a lot less focus and recompose for concert photography where things happen fast but also for the fact that the outer points are much more sensitive. He told me that he shot a lot of bands and night events and found the 6D to be less than adequate. Canon 6D Mark II vs Canon 5D Mark III In today’s post, we will compare two semi-professional digital SLR camera from Canon, the Canon 5D Mark III, and the Canon 6D Mark II. I've used the 6D a bit and found the AF system quite competent so I found his comments curious and asked him about it. I sold my backup 5D3 to someone here on the forum who was shooting a 6D but mentioned he needed a better AF system. On paper the 5D Mark III is 'better' in many ways than the 6D, but the question that you need to ask yourself is not which camera is better, but which camera is better or your needs. I was just going to chime in here on this after reading your first post and I noticed you already purchased. One of the bigger questions that we get now that Canon has an entry level DSLR, in the form of the Canon 6D, is regarding if people should choose the 6D or the Canon 5D Mk III. I'll probably end up buying the 85mm f/1.8 for portraits and then ultimately save up for the 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM II. I would've gotten the 5D Mark III if I had the money to spare, but I feel that I will be very pleased with the performance of the 6D coming from a cropped T2i anyway.

Once I graduate in May i'll really be able to put the 6D to the test when I go back home for good since that's where majority of my major work comes from. I weighed out the pros and cons as well and after reading up on both bodies I came to the conclusion that I should get the 6D, continue saving for more glass, and work on my photography. What it really came down to was the price. So, I pulled the trigger on the 6D and it should be arriving soon. Being that as a photographer I shoot a range of events and as a videographer I seek higher quality, what are your suggestions? Just looking from some outside advice. At the top of the line, Canon’s high-end DSLR, the 1DX Mark II shoots 16 FPS.

I also shoot video whether it be for music, interview purposes, events or leisure so this is also a major factor as well. In comparison, the Canon 7D shoots 8.0 FPS, and the Canon 5D Mark III shoots 6 FPS. As far a glass, I currently own an 18-55, 50mm f/1.8, and the 24-105 f/4 so 2/3 would be in use for the new body.

My reasons for wanting a full frame canon are: Better low light/iso performance for a wider range of events (It's been interesting testing out weddings, concerts, and night events with the t2i), higher image quality, better focusing, definitely shutter speed, etc. However, I'm currently in the market for a full frame camera and I've been looking at the 6d and 5D3. It has served as my main body and has performed well in a variety of situations.

So, I've been shooting with a Canon T2i for a few years now.
